which are only partly recognized have to pass an entrance
examination at the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology
(Zurich and Lausanne).
Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ)
The ETH Zürich, often called Swiss
Federal Institute of Technology, is a science and technology
university in the City of Zürich, Switzerland. The full name
reads de:Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich, with ETHZ
also being a common unofficial abbreviation. Locals sometimes
refer to it by the name Poly, derived from the original name
Eidgenössisches Polytechnikum or Federal Polytechnic Institute.
Like its sister institution École Polytechnique Fédérale de
Lausanne, it is an integral part of the ETH Domain that is
directly subordinate to the Federal Department of Home Affairs.
The ETH is an internationally oriented university. It is a
founding member of the IDEA League and the International
Alliance of Research Universities IARU.

Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) is the
Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The EPFL is in the heart of Europe and is one of Europe's
leading institutions of science and technology.
